LA Roundtable #71: Child Abuse in the Classroom - Oct 01, 2012

A series of recent accusations against teachers has made the public aware of the problem of potential child abuse in school classrooms. The Los Angeles Unified School District is in the process of reviewing employee files for past complaints to determine if there are any who should not be classroom teachers. Our panel discussing this urgent issue includes Martha Escutia, a former State Senator and State Assembly member who has written legislation to curb child abuse; Nury Martinez, an LAUSD Board member who emphasizes the priority of student safety above all else; and Melissa Smith, a licensed Family Therapist who has counseled abused children.
